We are seeking a Research Senior Scientist to join a vibrant and growing group currently focusing on Neurodegenerative diseases within the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area, a key component of the Discovery Research unit at Amgen's site in Cambridge, MA (AMA). The Senior Scientist works with in-depth knowledge of the cellular, molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and will participate in ongoing efforts directed toward developing new and effective therapeutics for Parkinson's disease (PD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Responsibilities:
  • Direct a team of Scientists and Associates tasked with identifying and validating new PD and/or ALS drug targets as well as developing strategies, assay and tools to enable their prosecution
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the optimization and preparation of novel PD and/or ALS therapeutic candidates for clinical development
  • Continuously evaluate a variety of in-licensing opportunities and establish external collaborations
  • Critically analyze and interpret data, define realistic timelines for studies and meet delivery deadlines
  • Work closely with and communicate results to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Present strategies and results to Neuroscience and Discovery Research Senior staff
  • Execute high impact studies within an extremely fast-paced and collaborative environment


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience

OR

Master's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 7 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Deep expertise in cell biology and genetics underlying Parkinson's disease and/or ALS and knowledge of the CNS drug discovery/development space. Previous experience investigating one or more of the following areas: cellular proteostasis mechanisms, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial function/homeostasis

Experience in therapeutic target validation and the development of physiologically relevant assays/models the enable elucidation of target biology and target prosecution

Established scientific reputation in the field of neurodegenerative diseases as evidenced by publication track record

Experience working in a cross-functional, matrixed, and global Research and Translational organization

Demonstrated ability to recruit, lead and motivate a team of scientists, and to be actively engaged in their career development

Outstanding leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
