Amgen's Commercial Information Systems (IS) team is looking for an experienced technologist to function as a Data Engineering Service Lead at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA location to join the Commercial Data and Analytics Team and help evolve Amgen's Commercial Data Platform and Data Services. The Service Lead will report to the Director, Data and Analytics and will partner closely with other regional Data and Analytics teams and the Commercial Organization.

The Commercial Data and Analytics IS team is responsible for delivering technology services and solutions around data, analytics and reporting that enable Amgen's US Commercial Operations.

Key Activities include:

  • Lead, architect and develop a robust, modern data services that support Commercial users and analytics applications
  • Deliver software products and frameworks to enable data engineering services on new data types (e.g. semi and unstructured), data sources and advanced analytics.
  • Establish a service and support model for on-boarding, integrating and distributing data efficiently
  • Design reusable frameworks and IS components that can be scaled globally to support other functions and region
  • Seek opportunities to make data available for Amgen users across functions (Commercial, R&D, Digital Health, Corporate Functions and Operations)
  • Foster a culture of innovation to encourage IS resources to evaluate and introduce emerging technologies that will allow business partners to meet their objectives
  • Build and nurture expertise in the wide set of technologies required to execute a Data Service including AWS (S3, Redshift), Databases and data warehouses, Data Integration (Spark), Orchestration (Airflow, Python)
  • Mentor and coach a team of Data Engineers to develop a strong center of expertise on Commercial Data and Data Engineering capabilities
  • Act as a primary point of contact for this new capability, this position will interact with end users from all aspects of Amgen's US commercial business to ensure that business use cases are well understood and ensure GCOIS is align with business needs for GCO
  • Develop multi-year capability and technology roadmap in partnership with other regional IS Data and Analytics teams to advance a Global product offering cutting edge capabilities
  • Continuous service improvements by reducing cycle time for delivery of projects and overall run cost of service

 


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems and/or Cloud experience
OR
Master s degree and 6 years of Information Systems and/or Cloud experience
OR
Bachelor s degree and 8 years of Information Systems and/or Cloud experience
OR
Associate s degree and 10 years of Information Systems and/or Cloud experience
OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
AND
2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

 

 

 

  • Experience of managing enterprise scale data, with knowledge of Big Data, Analytics, Reporting, BI, Data Warehousing, and Data Integration technologies
  • Ability to think strategically about technology, recommend solutions that align with IS and business strategy and achieve the greatest business impact
  • Understanding of latest AWS technologies (S3, EC2, Integration tools, Redshift, building large-scale and complex systems)
  • Experience using at least one scripting language like Python and repository/versioning tools such as GitHub
  • Demonstrated high learning agility with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive
  • Experience managing and developing a team and leading a technology service
  • Strong organizational, planning and financial management skills and demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across a matrixed organization
  • Hands on experience in one or more - ETL, Batch Processing, APIs Machine Learning
