Job Details

Amgen discovers, develops and delivers innovative human therapeutics. A biotechnology pioneer since 1980, Amgen was one of the first companies to realize the new science's promise by bringing safe, effective medicines from lab, to manufacturing plant, to patient. Amgen therapeutics have changed the practice of medicine, helping millions of people around the world in the fight against cancer, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and other serious illnesses. With a deep and broad pipeline of potential new medicines, Amgen remains committed to advancing science to dramatically improve people's lives.

The Advanced Modeling & Simulation team in the Digital Integration and Predictive Technologies (DIPT) organization is seeking a six month graduate co-op student to apply first principles of physics, engineering, and software programming to develop and deploy predictive mechanistic models of Ultrafiltration/Diafiltration processes (an essential step in the formulation of protein therapeutics).

The scope and opportunities of the co-op will include:

  • Surveying literature and state-of-art work;
  • Proposing, implementing, and validating new capabilities in the UF/DF model (osmolality modeling, sensitivity analysis, etc.);
  • Creative thinking and design to improve the usability of the model and deployment to users (GUI development, etc.);
  • Supporting and working with cross-functional team to apply existing UF/DF modeling tool;
  • Opportunity for exposure to experimental protocols and collaboration with formulation scientists;
  • Opportunity to explore model deployment in web-based software platforms.

The co-op will be embedded in a team of experienced modelers and will be expected to interact with the experimental partners in the Drug Substance and Drug Product organizations. The candidate co-op will be responsible - with guidance from subject matter experts - for mathematical formulation, code implementation, and numerical solution of the problem in Matlab (and/or Python), as well as model validation. The co-opHe/she will be an integral part of the team and help shape the team's modeling strategy though the outcome of this work.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.
