The Capital Projects Execution and Controls (CPEC) is responsible for Program and Project Management, Project Portfolio Management and Project Execution functions globally at Amgen.

The Project Engineer position presents an opportunity for a qualified candidate to join a high performing Capital Project Delivery organization to support a cross functional portfolio of projects across multiple business units within Amgen. This position presents a great opportunity to enhance leadership skills, learn and apply proficiency in estimating and benchmarking and to effectively support complex capital projects, demonstrate versatility, and cultivate financial acumen and overall understanding of Amgen's business.

This highly visible position interacts with all levels of the Engineering organization. The candidate must have some experience in estimating and project controls, strong communication skills, and the ability to problem solve.

Functions:
  • Support the Project Controls team in preparing project estimates to ensure all disciplines are properly considered, priced and incorporated in the estimate
  • Assist in the tracking of project estimates against actual cost data
  • Research historical data for capital projects and prepare consolidated reports to serve as the basis for new estimates
  • Manage and populate the benchmarking database for Amgen Capital projects
  • Develop various statistical data - quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs, equipment, etc.
  • Assist with the framework to develop and monitor project metrics and manage the collection of data
  • Assist with preparing statements of work, submittals, change management, contractor evaluation and selection process
  • Check progress of work in the field
  • Use data analytics and continuous improvement tools to provide direct input into Engineering's processes and improvement initiatives
  • Develop new tools, methods, controls and innovative solutions to Amgen's key processes
  • Facilitates communication between teams on various aspects of project


Basic Qualifications:

Master's Degree

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of Engineering or Construction Management Experience

OR

Associate Degree and 6 years of Engineering or Construction Management Experience

OR

High School diploma/GED and 8 years of Engineering or Construction Management Experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working for Construction management or Engineering company
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree
  • Ability to read, understand and organize construction plans and associated documents
  • Some experience in the application of project management skills and concepts with a critical understanding of related engineering disciplines
  • Experience of working in diverse teams of engineering, scientific, construction, and facilities management within the Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology industries
  • Practical ingenuity with the ability to problem solve using practical solutions
  • Ability to interface well with internal technical, scientific, and upper level management groups
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and conflicting priorities across a broad range of project portfolio
  • Excellent people skills featuring a demonstrated supervisory style that fits within the Amgen culture and values
  • Interpersonal and facilitation skills necessary to forge consensus among competing client interests on critical and time-sensitive issues--important in ensuring that, within Amgen's collaborative culture, projects are finished on time and on budget
  • Often acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of processes or procedures
  • Strong analytical skills in the information and communication technologies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to tactfully negotiate and positively influence peers and executive leadership
  • Effective oral, visual and written communication skills with the ability to listen effectively
  • Resilience and flexibility with the ability to react to changes quickly, and the ability to apply knowledge to new problems and new contexts
