Amgen is seeking a Specialist Software Development Engineer who will work in our Enterprise Engineering and Analytics (EEA) department. The Software Development Engineer is responsible for building the Enterprise Data Science platforms and Data Science Workbench at Amgen. EEA services include Advanced Analytics and Data Integration, Big Data Technology Services, Cloud and DevOps Engineering, Information Discovery and Search, Information Architecture, Knowledge Management (KM), and Data Science.

Responsibilities:
  • Development of platforms capable of enabling data science, machine learning, predictive modeling and artificial intelligence capabilities across Amgen.
  • Develop and own the Enterprise Data Science Reference Architecture and put into place the platforms and capabilities within the Reference Architecture.
  • Explore and POC new data science platform tools and capabilities and how they fit within the Enterprise Data Science Reference Architecture
  • Creating prototypes and demonstrations of Data Science capabilities for application teams new to Data Science
  • Integrate the Enterprise Data Science Platforms with other platforms in Amgen's Ecosystem: Enterprise Data Lake/Big Data, Search, Data Marketplace, etc
  • Manage and execute the Data Science platform backlog
  • Work with Internal Communications team to prepare and maintain communication materials like roadmaps, position papers, presentations, demos and socialize the materials with our business clients and partner IS services
  • Provide Run/DevOps support for the Data Science platforms


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer shipping successful industrial strength products and/or services to customers using a SDLC process from start to finish
  • 3+ years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: Java, C, C++, C#, Swift/Objective C, Python.
  • Experience with full stack development doing infrastructure cloud services (AWS preferred) and cloud-native tools and design patterns (Containers, Serverless, Docker, etc)
  • Experience with Web/Front End Frameworks such as React, AngularJS, or Django.
  • Experience working with large datasets, experience working with distributed computing tools (Spark, Hive, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Penchant for learning about new technology innovations and creativity in application of technology to business problems
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps
  • Ability to work in a startup-like environment with little supervision
  • Ability to communicate analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Biotech / Pharma experience is a plus
