The candidate will have the opportunity to actively manage a globally proficient and efficient animal husbandry organization at our Lawrenceville research animal facility that support Discovery.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include mentoring and managing facility supervisors and operations technical staff with the goal of insuring that they are technically competent and effective problem solvers.
Conduct performance management and career development for direct reports.
Provide strategic oversight of the facility operations including personnel, equipment and space resource allocation in animal husbandry operations.
Responsible for participating in the development and implementation of policies and procedures on animal care, applying welfare regulations to assure compliance with institutional policies and federal mandates, overseeing strict adherence to all safety and environmental standards and coordinating departmental renovation and facility maintenance activities.
Participate in the coordination and completion of reports such as USDA Annual Reports, AAALAC Program Descriptions, census summaries and metric analyses
Leads site functional team to collaborate and communicate on resource allocation and utilization for Discovery Therapeutic Areas and scientific groups.
Additional responsibilities include oversight of the internal quality assurance programs for maintaining sanitation and biosecurity standards for animal husbandry.
Actively participate in the Management Leadership Team (MLT) in developing, analyzing and maintaining operational metrics to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the animal husbandry program.
Participate in the development of training programs for laboratory technicians in animal husbandry
Contribute to the alignment of global animal husbandry programs to be an industry leader in laboratory animal sciences
Responsible for the development and implementation of new operating model for union and non-union animal husbandry staff
Cognizant of the physical, chemical and biological health hazards present within the animal facility and relate such findings to EHSS

Understanding of regulatory compliance (ie, USDA regulations and Animal Welfare Act) and accrediting guidelines (AAALAC and The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals) for facility operations

Must have experience with animal husbandry operations based metric tools and benchmarking
Must have experience with union and non-union labor relations and contract negotiations
Must have a mastery of facility operations and mastery of the regulations and guidelines that govern animal facility operations normally attained with a minimum of ten years relevant experience.
Must have ten years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in life sciences is required
AALAS certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) is required
Institute of Laboratory Animal Management (ILAM) certificate/graduate is required
Ten years of biopharmaceutical industry experience in leading animal husbandry operations is required
AALAS certification as Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) certification is preferred
Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) or Master of Business Administration is preferred
