Position summary:

Prepares and/or reviews various sections of the Company's financial statements and disclosures filed with the SEC, and assists in ensuring all disclosures are complete, accurate, and in accordance with US generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP). Performs accounting research to ensure agreements and complex transactions are properly accounted for.

Essential Functions include:
  • Effectively research accounting (under U.S. GAAP, IFRS, or other reporting frameworks) for new, complex, or unusual transactions, and be able to communicate/document the Company's accounting treatment for such transactions.
  • Review contracts to determine proper accounting treatment.
  • Responsible for preparation and/or review of financial information and disclosures in the Company's publicly filed information, including 10-Qs/10-Ks, Earnings Releases, Proxy Statement, statutory financial statements, etc.
  • Works directly with various personnel, including members of senior management, in other departments to obtain information necessary to ensure accurate disclosures in the Company's financial statements.
  • Maintains and "owns" excellent working relationships with various members of management from other departments, including General Accounting, Legal, Tax, Finance, Treasury, and Business Development.
  • Prepares and updates accounting policies and internal controls documentation.
  • Assists with other ad hoc projects, such as performing research on peer companies, implementation of new accounting standards, etc.
  • Supervises, coaches, and reviews the work of others.
  • Liaises directly with external auditors on a number of matters, including discussing proposed accounting for complex transactions as well as their review/tie out of the financial statements.
  • Ensures that all internal control policies and procedures are followed.
  • Provides suggestions and support for process improvements/efficiencies.

Strong organizational and project management abilities, attention to detail, and accuracy are critical in this position. Team player. Must demonstrate the ability to think creatively and independently to solve problems, complete projects, and effect operational improvements. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Can effectively communicate in group settings. Performs job duties under minimal daily supervision.

Must possess knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting. Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards is a plus. Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
