Job Details
More than 1,200 Pharmacyclics and AbbVie research scientists, clinicians, marketing, operations and corporate professionals work in the San Francisco Bay Area. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. General Position/Summary:
Individual will be responsible for working with scientists in the drug discovery group at Research department, contributing to exploratory work on novel targets in hematological cancers and immune-oncology. The successful internship candidate will be trained to independently perform experiments using molecular cell biology and biochemistry techniques that employing a variety of cell types including primary cells, as well as cancer cell lines, and clinical samples.
Key Accountabilities:
· Independently execute experiments in the lab with some supervision.
· Analyze and interpret data using scientific analysis and statistical software.
· Summarize and communicate findings to the research team in a timely manner.
· Maintain detailed records of all experiments in a laboratory notebook.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Must have previous laboratory experience, must be able to independently handle basic laboratory experiments, such as cell culture, PCR, and Western blot.
· A working understanding of basic cell or molecular biology techniques is a plus.
· Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office).
· Excellent organizational, record keeping, and communication skills.
Education Requirements:
· Qualified applicants will be currently enrolled collegiate students (sophomore or higher) moving into either junior or senior level classwork in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, or other related field.
- Be an active student in good standing at a US accredited university
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
Final Presentation:
Each intern is expected to prepare a short presentation to their team to share what they have learned through their internship and how they hope their new knowledge will help them secure their future career. Presentations may be approximately 10-15 minutes long and should include visual aid (posters or PowerPoint).
