The Associate Director, FP&A Benefits, Tax & Insurance is responsible for the accounting, reporting and financial planning and analysis activities for U.S. employee benefits, insurance and non-income related taxes

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Accounting and planning for the following benefit expenses: Pension/OPEB, cash profit sharing, AbbVie savings plan, Medical, Dental, ST/LT disability, worker's compensation
  • Analysis of benefit components and related accounting treatment, all monthly reporting, Blackline reconciliations, journal entries and fulfilling external audit requests. Analysis also includes tracking of expenditures to determine cost drivers, trends and absorption
  • Responsible for the U.S. fringe rate accounting and planning which monitors U.S. headcount trends and the ability to manage over/under recovery at the Corporate level
  • Responsible for coordination of OUS pension/OPEB planning cycles and topside adjustments needed at the Corporate level
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting on global review of Pension/OPEB costs and ensure FASB requirements with P&L classification are executed accurately
  • Taxes include: property, franchise, sales and use and support the Global Tax & Global Trade Compliance functional budgets
  • Insurance includes: Product & General liability, Property and Casualty, Auto, Marine, D&O and international deductible funds
  • Provides decision support to various VPs and Directors and provides analysis on key benefit program changes, acquisitions and other ad hoc analysis to support above areas
  • Role manages 1 Grade 16 Sr. Financial Analyst and 1 Grade 14 Financial Analyst
  • Reports to Sr. Director Corporate Admin FP&A


This position supports and communicates with all levels of operating and financial management on an on-going basis. AbbVie areas with routine interaction include HR Total Rewards, Tax, Risk Management, Corporate Controllership, Division Controllers, and External Auditors.

Basic:
  • BS - Accounting required
  • 8+ years combined experience in general accounting, and financial planning in a comparable role
  • 3+ years' experience managing a staff
  • Proven ability in finance, accounting, budgeting, and GAAP

Preferred:
  • CPA and MBA strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, strong attention to detail as well as big picture, effective written and verbal communication skills along with ability to collaborate, negotiate and build consensus
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
