Summary

The successful candidate will join the Oncology Discovery Research team at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Lawrenceville, NJ and aide in the discovery and advancement of early and late stage therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, targeting both cancer intrinsic and extrinsic pathways.

The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual that possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment to advance preclinical drug development programs from target identification/validation through IND enabling activities. The candidate will sit on the Oncology Discovery Biology Leadership team in New Jersey and be responsible for the design and implementation of the In-vivo Pharmacology strategy for the team.

The candidate will develop novel animal models that more closely mimic human cancer and answer mechanistic questions, validate early targets that have the potential to progress, and test and screen drug candidates using a wide range of animal models including syngeneic, PTX and GEMM models. The candidate must have the ability to interact closely with program leads to design in vivo models, PD, and rodent efficacy studies. The candidate will organize, design, and assign studies to his/her team. Good interpersonal, communication, leadership and mentoring skills. In vitro assay experience with strong working knowledge of flow cytometry as well as a variety of immune and tumor cell functional assays is needed. Experience running a team is essential. Ability to present data to large and diverse project teams. Broad and deep understanding of tumor cell biology and immuno-oncology and appropriate models leading to oncology drug development. The candidate will be expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues in the oncology, immunology, immuno-oncology, protein engineering/antibody development and medicinal chemistry groups across our three sites in Cambridge MA, Redwood City, CA and Lawrenceville, NJ. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication, capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders.

Qualifications
PhD with at least 10+ years of relevant industry experience and a clearly demonstrated skill set in oncology, immuno-oncology, or immunology is required. Attention to detail with excellent leadership, organizational and record keeping skills is a requirement. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally is required.

Responsibilities include

Partner with Oncology Pharmacology leads from RWC and CAM to align models , methodologies and best practices to drive One Pharmacology across the organization

Build out Oncology pharmacology capabilities in Lawrenceville to elevate the level of support for early and late stage drug discovery programs.

Responsible for the development of new pharmacology models and overseeing the testing of compounds in these models.

Responsible for identifying studies that will assist with early target validation.

Participate in project team meetings to help identify key pharmacology questions.

Accurately maintain proper scientific documentation associated with pharmacology studies in an electronic lab notebook.

Ability to effectively communicate and present summaries of research results to team members or to a multidisciplinary team of researchers.

Work as a member of a diverse and motivated team of researchers spanning across multiple divisions of the in vivo discovery unit. Ability to attract top talent.

Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and develop junior PhD and associates.
