Summary
We are looking for an R&D Associate - Sample Preparation, who will report to the Senior Manager - Sequencing and Lab Operations. This R&D Associate will be responsible for preparing human DNA samples for genotyping and exome capture on our custom automation platforms.
Responsibilities
- Receiving DNA samples from collaborators, logging samples into our database, and storing samples in our biobank
- Operating our custom robotic platforms to create DNA libraries for exome capture and genotyping
- Logging sample information into our library information management system (LIMS)
- Performing sample quality control (QC) assays using gel electrophoresis, UV spectrometry, fluorometry, and quantitative real-time PCR
- Monitoring QC data and identifying samples not meeting our established standards for passing QC values
- Troubleshooting procedures related to sequencing library construction
- Collaborating with our engineering and automation core teams to test new methods related to sequencing library construction
- Validating and implementing new technologies introduced at the Center
Requirements
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and some experience working in a molecular biology lab.
Preferred experience would include:
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing approaches and technology
- Using a library information management system (LIMS); exceptional candidates will have prior experience with Sapio Exemplar LIMS
- Various molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and quantitative real-time PCR.
- Operation of an automation platform (e.g. a liquid handling robot); a good candidate will have prior experience with Hamilton robotics
- Familiarity with standard DNA laboratory QC instruments (e.g. UV spectrometer, microplate reader, Agilent Bioanalyzer, LightCycler 480).
