Manages the scientific collaborative relationship for research and development for the commercialization of the organization's products.
Responsible for driving programs and maximizing resources through the application of project management best practices. Supports efforts to analyze current program operations and makes recommendations for improvement and coordinates the decision-making process. Facilitates information flow between team members, the program leader(s), senior management and the corporate client. Establishes and develops cross-functional teams to support research, development and commercialization processes and may identify optimal opportunities for product. Organizes interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project on the schedule and within budget constraints. This job contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.
Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Acts as an advisor to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Coordinates the activities of the cross functional program team, including information compilation and information flow. Provides the primary client interface, to establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with the client. Facilitates the decision making process within the team; suggests and implements alternatives to meet changing program goals. Resolves team and program issues/conflicts through project management best practices to ensure program objectives are met. Manages all program and client/internal communications, including team meetings, client meetings, budget reports, and written progress reports. Manages program team, client and committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, meeting minutes, meeting facilitation and action item follow up. Supports the program budget planning process through work plan preparation and maintenance, ensuring the client understands program risks. Establishes program milestones with client and program team and ensures program milestones are met. In coordination with areas functional managers, ensures that resources assigned to the program are adequate to meet program objectives and identifies resource constraints. Reviews and revises program work plans to accommodate changes in technical, marketing, or business objectives and escalates issues accordingly. Integrates scientific and business objectives to maximize program success. May manage other junior program management staff.
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline is required. An advanced degree is highly preferred. Equivalent experience may be accepted. Certification in Project Management is preferred. A minimum of 8 years experience in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Products or other related industry is required. A minimum of 5 years management experience is preferred. Prior experience in managing interdisciplinary or cross functional pharmaceutical or medical device product development teams is required. Understanding of FDA regulatory processes and prior experience with regulatory filings is highly desired. Participation in an executive steering committee for pharmaceutical or medical device product development is desired. Continuing education in Project Management best practices is required. A working knowledge of basic financial accounting is required. Good computer skills are required. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Project is required. Must be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving capabilities. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
Previous experience working with corporate partners or acting as a liaison is highly preferred. Must be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills.
