The field-based Associate Director/Director of Medical Sciences will lead and manage a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs). S/he will ensure the successful dissemination of and timely exchange of information to the clinical/scientific community.

Principle Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provision of ongoing coaching, oversight and performance evaluation of MSLs via active observation of the team; establishment of clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative); development and implementation of processes to routinely monitor progress
  • Development and maintenance of positive professional relationships with current and emerging travel medicine, vaccinology, pharmacy and infectious diseases thought-leaders in the United States based on mutual respect and PaxVax's social mission and commitment to vaccines.
  • Timely, accurate and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and FDA regulatory requirements
  • Provision of ongoing guidance for the career development of MSLs, including: the identification of specific development needs and guidance to appropriate training; identification and development of opportunities for MSLs to network and expand skills aligned with development plans; providing regular feedback regarding short and long-term career goals
  • Collaborate with colleagues in multiple other functional areas, including Clinical Research, Clinical Operations, Global Medical Affairs, and Commercial organizations
  • Support Global and in-house medical affairs functions with the review of medical information as needed (ie., PRC for promotional reviews and MRL (medical, regulatory and legal) of medical collateral)
  • Ensure successful integration of the MSL roles within each MSL's assigned geography
  • Coordinate and ensure successful execution of MSL participation in advisory boards as needed and educational programs, such as speaker training and conference planning
  • Excellent operational execution, driving the development, deployment and appropriate use of field-based technologies to ensure timely and accurate reporting of in-bound data requirements
  • Ensure the accurate recording of and timely reporting of medical affairs field data for accurate performance measurements
  • Ongoing execution of strategic plans consistent with the Medical Affairs Plan
  • Ensure MS compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations an internal PaxVax policies



  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PhD or PharmD strongly preferred)
  • A minimum of 5 years prior experience in medical affairs, preferably as a field-based MSL
  • Additional relevant experience in a medically related endeavor (i.e., clinical practice, medical affairs or clinical operations experience in the industry setting).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to evaluate competing priorities to arrive at appropriate decision
  • Demonstrated strong presentation skills
  • Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for field-based personnel and guidelines, including geographic regulatory related guidelines
  • Collaborative, team-based approach; ability to network and partner with internal and external stakeholders, including medical thought-leaders, academic institutions, large group practices, nurses, medical directors and pharmacy directors
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and resources
  • Strong business skills/acumen; ability to translate scientific expertise and knowledge to achieve the identified business goals of the company
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to travel extensively (up to 60% of the time)
