Oversight of the design, creation and ongoing development of U.S. medical affairs (USMA) value and access capabilities and teams. This role is the senior most position within USMA with responsibility for establishing a scientific vision for scientific access and reimbursement initiatives, creating a framework to support that vision and to successfully execute the fulfillment thereof. This involves the oversight of TA access strategy development, field deployment, capabilities and technology, and the synthesis of an overall managed care plan for the entire portfolio of AbbVie US assets. This position is directly responsible for partnering with VP of Integrated managed healthcare, VP / Head of USMA, and is required to have executive responsibility and presence with the US area management team.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversight of Healthcare Solutions TA Directors and SR Directors - 15 FTE's. Oversight of Medical Outcomes Science Liaison field team and management - 30 FTE's.
  • Establishing and execution of vision of scientific access and reimbursement to meet the corporation needs through incorporating knowledge and insight of the healthcare landscape.
  • Identification and adaptation of roles, responsibilities, ways of working, infrastructure, required competencies, and technology to continue to lead industry in scientific access and reimbursement initiatives.
  • Partner and collaborate with Heads / VPs of USMA therapeutic area teams to identify and support the unique needs of each TA in the access and reimbursement space.
  • Integrate USMA with cross functional partners (through senior leadership alignment) responsible for area access and reimbursement initiatives, including but not limited to, HEOR, IMHC, MABI, Government Affairs, Public relations).
  • Participate as the senior representative in area wide access initiatives (ex: Above Brand Strategic Team, Future Fit value and access initiatives).
  • Provide senior medical affairs leadership in executive engagements (either by themselves, in conjunction with medical field teams, or in conjunction with senior leaders from cross functional areas such as US President, VP IMHC, VP HEOR, etc).
  • Leadership role in product value assessment evaluations by external value assessors (ICER).
  • Collaborate with US Area Management Team and US Government Affairs representing AbbVie externally on policy with respect to pharmaceutical value determinants.
  • Function as senior most subject matter expert for all areas of US scientific Access and Reimbursement.

Qualification:

  • MD, DO, PhD or Pharm D; MD/DO with PRA experience preferred; clinical specialty experience(if MD or Pharm D) highly desired.
  • Over 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical and / or managed care industry or in Public Health policy, in leadership and management roles with 5 years medical affairs experience. Greater than or equal to 5 years of direct people management experience. Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and to influence without authority.
  • Previous roles in access and reimbursement organizations or governmental access and reimbursement positions or on access and reimbursement advisory committees/boards (ex: Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee).
  • Experience in working in both Clinical Development and Medical Affairs highly desired with deep understanding of both the drug development process, healthcare landscape mapping, and pharmaceutical commercialization model.
  • Experience in leading without authority, collaborating with multiple stakeholders, and working in a matrix organization to leverage expertise is highly desired.
  • Clinical and Outcomes Research design expertise highly desired.
  • Experience in working with Public Health Landscape and Managed Care issues in US and internationally is required.
  • Strong scientific/clinical skills, strategic thinker and problem solving skills required.
