Position Role & Responsibilities:

To lead, conceive and effectively manage research efforts (i.e., translational in vitro and in vivo studies) and team.  Our research endeavors are clinically oriented and broadly involve accelerating the regenerative processes (i.e., via simulation and/or activation of vascular stem cell niches) located in multiple organs/ tissues destined for multiple clinical applications (e.g., hematology, hemato-oncology, musculoskeletal, cardiac, neuro (spine and brain), lung, gastro-intestinal, hematopoietic gene-therapy, etc.).  Priorities are driven by data, feasibility, unmet need and market.  Position reports to the CEO.

We are looking for an emerging scientific leader who displays and/or have a track record for:

  1. broad and robust scientific intellect—driven by data;
  2. solution-oriented creativity and implementation (i.e., likes getting things done);
  3. ‘can do’ positive attitude—even in the face of adversity, including resource or time crunch;
  4. “no-excuses" management (i.e., relishes taking responsibility, whether success or failure)
  5. quick-study (i.e., loves rapidly reading and synthesizing new scientific ideas, concepts, studies)
  6. reputation of being even-tempered, nice to people and highly ethical.

Position Requirements:

Experience

  1. at least 5 years as a team leader (e.g., Principal Investigator if academic/ non-profit, or Exec. Dir., Sr. Dir. or Dir. if industry) who is/was responsible for original in vitro and in vivo translational research;
  2. substantial research endeavors in multiple fields (preferably published); and,
  3. worked in at least 1 start-up (or start-up team within a mid-size biotech/pharma or research institute). 

Education

  1. Ph.D. and/or M.D. and/or D.V.M. in medical scientific research from a well-reputed institution; and
  2. Postdoctoral Fellowship or equivalent industry experience relevant to Angiocrine research and supervised by a well-reputed Principal Investigator.

Additional Desired Skills (not required):

  1. experience in developing engineered (and/or cultured) cell therapies;
  2. conducting translational research of the vascular stem cell niches in various organs and their clinical relevance;
  3. solid publication record in high-impact journals 

Location:

This position is based in San Diego, CA.  Candidate would be required to relocate to San Diego if not local resident.  This position requires hands-on, on-site management of the team; our main lab is located in the Sorrento Valley area.  In addition, we lease in vivo and other R&D facilities closer to San Diego proper.  As a young/emerging biotech, we regretfully cannot provide an extensive relocation package (only certain assistance for moving).
