Territory: United States, Cardiovascular (Red Team)

This position can be based anywhere in the continental US.

The Director, Key Accounts will report to the CV Executive Director of Sales. They will lead a team of five Cardiovascular Account Directors and 50 Cardiovascular Account Managers across the US responsible for delivering short and long-term objectives.

Their responsibilities also include managing and coordinating the efforts of the Cardiovascular Account Directors and Cardiovascular Account Managers, including capability, resource and incentive compensation development, through strong internal collaboration with Global Learning & Performance, CV Brand Marketing teams and Sales Operations.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Lead a national team of five Cardiovascular Account Directors and 50 Cardiovascular Account Managers
  • Monitors Amgen business performance across therapeutic portfolio
  • Identifies drivers/barriers and coordinates pull-through initiatives and marketing strategy across field teams (Account Director, Account Managers, Reimbursement/Access Specialists, Nurse Educators, Regional Marketing Managers, and the Value Based Partnership Team)
  • Strong history of business results being driven by sound analytical and financial acumen
  • Coordinates Amgen home office engagement with customers; Works collectively with matrix and alliance team members compliantly
  • Builds and develops professional relationships with key customer decision-makers
  • Develop national business plans and implement national sales strategies and programs. Track the progress of marketing messages and programs by utilizing analytics and the Vision tool to drive actionable insights
  • Provide feedback to regional and district teams on the marketing, allocating, monitoring, and leveraging of internal and external resources (e.g., discretionary spend)
  • Manage regional and district teams to maximize their performance and help achieve/exceed sales and budget targets in line with the business unit vision and guiding principles
  • Screen, interview, and hire candidates
  • Ensure compliance with training and compliance with all policy and procedures
  • Demonstrate the appropriate coaching and counseling to prepare individuals for future development
  • Conduct annual and on-going performance reviews and competency assessments
  • Develop local Opinion Leader relationships to achieve aligned objectives


Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of marketing, sales management and/or project management experience
  • OR
  • Master's degree & 8 years of marketing, sales management and/or project management experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree & 10 years of marketing, sales management and/or project management experience
  • AND
  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources


Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than 8 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical sector and in access & reimbursement
  • More than 6 years of managerial experience with a focus on customer-facing teams
  • Advanced degree (e.g. MPH, MBA, PharmD, etc.) 7+ years of healthcare sales and/or marketing experience or related experience in buying processes and decision making
  • Marketing experience preferred
  • Significant experience with payer or integrated health systems and key account management; previous responsibility for a portfolio of products
  • Deep knowledge of reimbursement environment and trends within the US healthcare market
  • Experience working in a marketing function, preferably focused on payer or system marketing
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build teams/departments
  • Experience working with Medical teams such as medical science liaisons, medical platform development, or health outcomes & pharmacoeconomics evidence is beneficial
  • Understands how to engage and mobilize diverse groups to take appropriate action in support of specific business issues, and to support building new capabilities at Amgen; inclusive of influence skills
  • Sensitivity to diverse groups of people both internal and external with the ability to manage many different opinions and perspectives, including tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to convey in a clear and compelling manner important messages to different parties with different interests.
  • Experience ensuring teams execute and deliver quality work within timelines
  • Deep knowledge & experience in Cardiology, including dyslipidemia, heart failure and acute coronary syndromes, highly preferred
