Overview

This Principal Electronics Hardware Engineer role is among the vanguard of our expansion in to new and innovative ways to care for our patients. The position acts as a technical leader on a multi-year program to combine new, digital health technologies with a product line that has a proven, clinical track record of treating acute, post-surgical pain. Must be an individual contributor and also a leader.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Program leader, external partners, and cross-functional teams to design innovative medical device products.
  • Translate customer and marketing requirements into product and system specifications which can be successfully verified, validated and launched.
  • Work to define and create collateral for new connected device platforms; (HW concepts study, Hardware Architecture)
  • Lead engineering sub team to realize product development
  • Design product solutions– Analog/Digital, low power, wireless, miniaturization, sensors, high speed design
  • Schematic capture, PCB Layout, initial board bring up and test, including driver bring up
  • Knowledge in a variety of processors and tradeoffs: FPGA , Microprocessors, PC platforms
  • Strong technical understanding of software, firmware and hardware interaction up to the OS level
  • Appreciation of mechanical systems and elements within a system
  • Develop hardware/system module specifications
  • Generate test protocols and reports
  • Plan resources and provide schedule estimates
  • Experience leading/mentoring diverse team of engineers such as electrical, firmware engineers
  • Investigate technologies to accelerate the capabilities of the technical team
  • Identify and manage technical risks early
  • Establish guidelines for and participate in the review of product engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, designs, test descriptions, implementations, tests, records, reports, etc.)
  • Under minimal direction, update system specifications, designs, test descriptions, hazard analysis, test procedures, and related documentation supporting hardware system development to defined standards;
  • Mentor less senior team members and peer review product artifacts including requirement specifications, design specifications, code, etc.
  • Establish and maintain working knowledge of technology trends and how they are or can be made relevant to our business. Partner with external vendors to access future technology roadmaps
  • Develop a close working relationship with colleagues in the sales and marketing organizations to understand the market space and to translate that knowledge to product requirements.
  • Spend time in the field with physicians and key opinion leaders to develop and maintain close ties with on-the-ground happenings in our market.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with partners in the Quality and Operations organizations to work to ensure smooth and timely product introductions.
  • Deep working knowledge of 60601, 62304, 13485 development processes and standards
  • Strong interest in new product development, willingness to learn new technologies

Your qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in electronics hardware development; Medical Device development preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or similar field; Masters preferred. 
  • Flexibility to work in an Agile development model.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, problem solving, and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to be an individual contributor and team leader preferred.
