Position Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and creative Scientist II/Senior Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology team in Research Biology with a focus on inflammation and immunology in our San Francisco site.

This individual will focus on mechanistic pharmacology and functional biology with emphasis on in vivo immunology/inflammation related models. The Scientist will conceive experimental design strategies to characterize novel targets, to test efficacy of potential therapeutics, and to develop relevant mechanism of action studies to support target validation and nonclinical development. The Scientist is expected to lead and participate in the conduct of experiments in various in vivo immunology/inflammation related models. We are seeking someone who is a hands-on expert in relevant experimental biology techniques in addition to in vivo modeling, including also ex vivo techniques like tissue-derived primary cell flow cytometry and functional in vitro and ex vivo immune cell assays that evaluate mechanistic aspects of immune modulation and cell signaling by potential drug candidates in diverse test systems. A strong immunology background is required. This individual will lead technology development in the area of in vivo autoimmune and inflammatory disease modeling and experimental drug testing to support early discovery and preclinical development of pipeline assets. Additionally, s/he will interpret and communicate experimental findings and documents according to approved Nektar policy. We are seeking someone who maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and develops and analyzes new product concepts by reviewing nonclinical and clinical literature. The Scientist may lead discovery teams, as necessary, act as a Pharmacology functional representative on functional and development teams, as well as manage junior scientists and research associates. This position contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.
