Job Details
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The general responsibility will be to provide Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the NCI with excellent support in proteomics and protein analysis using mass spectrometry.
- Analyze samples for CCR investigator and communicate with them regarding experimental set up and data interpretation
- Using broad sample processing method for mass spectrometry analysis
- Daily operation of different orbitrap mass spectrometers
- Use different HPLC methods for prefractionation of samples in preparation for mass spectrometry analysis
- Perform variety of raw mass spectrometry data processing using Proteome Discoverer and other open source and proprietary software, pertain to extracting information from mass spectrometry data
- Cell culture to grow cell in preparation for variety of experiments, such a protein complex isolation and quantitative global proteomics
- Western blotting for monitoring protein expression and validating protein interaction
- Keep detailed record of all experiments and lab activities for quality purposes and future publications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a BS degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related fields from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to the educational requirements a minimum of 2 years post-graduation laboratory experience in biochemistry, chemistry or related fields.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Theoretical and hands on experience using mass spectrometers to analyze chemical and/or biological molecules/samples
- Some programming and data analysis skills are desirable
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES
- Basic laboratory techniques, such as different sample preparations methods, western blotting, cell culture and other relevant laboratory procedures
