Position Overview

Nektar Therapeutics is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Summer Intern to join our Analytical Development group at our Huntsville, AL office.

Position Summary: Through this exciting opportunity, Interns will gain valuable work experience to supplement their academic education.

Project Description:

The successful candidate will work on an early phase clinical drug conjugate and related compounds. The candidate will assist in the design, execution, and interpretation of method optimization studies associated with drug development, including impurity identification and structural characterization. Additional studies to be based on the successful candidate's individual skillset.

Responsibilities: Responsible for routine and non-routine analysis according to standard operating procedures. Perform various analyses such as HPLC, UV/vis and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and various wet chemistry experiments. Practices knowledge of good manufacturing practices and good laboratory practices on a daily basis. Maintains an accurate and well-organized laboratory notebook, compiles data for documentation of experiments, and prepares presentations and reports for distribution in a group setting. Presents findings in a concise and effective manner.

Requirements: At a minimum, applicants should have completed their sophomore year of college. Required course work includes at least 2 years, or more, of chemistry including general chemistry and advanced level courses (e.g., organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, etc.) with relevant chemistry laboratory experience. Must have demonstrated a working knowledge of scientific principles. Working knowledge of biochemistry and/or experience in a research laboratory or pharmaceutical industry are a plus. General introductory experience in chromatography and spectroscopy techniques is expected. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as documentation skills are essential. Must be well organized and willing to work as part of a team.

This is a paid internship opportunity, however, there is no relocation assistance offered.
