Job Details

Value to the Intern:
Contribute to PCYC Lab Data Management operations and processes while obtaining first hand experiences that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Lab Data Management department. Work collaboratively with various departments, enhancing knowledge and skills and improving the delivery of quality laboratory data and metrics. Assist in the completion of projects while developing skills related to lab data management by developing novel data cleaning strategies and lab data metrics.
Value to Pharmacyclics:
- Experience in R programming, SQL, and basic SAS programs to support various cross-functional projects and facilitate staff training
- Assist in data output QC and checks and help identify processes to streamline data cleaning functions
- Develop metrics on laboratory data quality
General Position/Summary/Purpose:
The Laboratory Data Management department seeks a motivated R and SAS Programming intern (knowledge of SQL is a plus). This position is open to college students who are actively looking for a summer intern position. The responsibilities of this position are as follow:
· Opportunity to create a tutorial on the basics of using R and provide training to Lab Data Management personnel
· Assist in the design of a mySQL project to capture audit trails
· Take user requirements/specifications and program lab data listings for quality reviews
· Assist in developing lab data metrics to identify site specific problems and issues.
· Opportunity to identify areas for improvement and build processes and tools to create efficiencies.
Qualifications:
· Computer Science, Math, basic Biology coursework relevant to internship scope of requirements.
· At lease 1-year experience in R and SAS programming and knowledge of SQL
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Education Requirements:
- Complete at least one year of university studies prior to internship start date.
- Be an active student in good standing at an accredited university.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent.
Final Presentation
Each Intern is expected to prepare a short presentation to their team to share what they have learned through their internship and how they hope their new knowledge will help them secure their future career. Presentations should be 10 - 15 minutes long and should include visual aid (posters or PowerPoint).
