AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company , is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

This role will be responsible for leading a team of project managers and activities across the manufacturing and supply chain organization. This includes managing projects cross-functionally as well as through critical external development partnerships. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing critical project timelines and budget, identifying and resolving issues across the organization, and defining standard project management tools. This person will be responsible for linking project management resources to the program managers and ensuring consistency. The candidate is also responsible for facilitating Technical Review and Project Review Boards.


  • Management of timelines and deliverables of critical projects within the manufacturing and supply chain organization.
  • Establishing and ensuring consistency of project management tools within manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Creation of systems to support the AveXis IND Engine.
  • Financial responsibility for tracking development projects, ensuring costs and payments are executed accurately.
  • Provide management team with weekly/monthly metrics and progress dashboards reflecting status of all development and manufacturing activities.
  • Highlight and escalate issues along with mitigation options/solutions.
  • Lead a team of 5-7 project managers.


  • Minimum B.S. degree in science related field; higher level degree: MS, MBA preferred but not required, PMP Certification preferred but not required.
  • Direct, hands-on experience in manufacturing, quality, and contract supplier/customer interactions.
  • Strong project management, budget, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize detailed information and provide critical insights across manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Experience working with contract suppliers and customers (ability to build strong relationships and influence positive results).
  • Knowledge and understanding of cGMPs.

This position will preferably be located out of our Chicago area office, with 10% travel. Position can be located out of the North Carolina office, with 30-50% travel.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
