Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

The successful candidate will work with the team's Image Analysis Scientist in applying commercial, open-source, and custom software towards streamlined image analysis strategies for digital pathology, PET, CT, MRI, OCT, and more. The candidate will contribute to each stage of the image analysis pipeline, including data management, selection of analysis approach, and presentation of results. The candidate will also work to empower non-experts throughout the company to leverage commercial image analysis and management tools, and help to ensure that quantitative summaries of Regeneron's imaging data are always of the highest quality.

Examples of recent and ongoing projects include: semi-automated scoring of inflammation in a mouse model of uveitis from OCT; development of a novel quantitative metric from high throughput fluorescent microscopy for an antibody screening assay; automated quantification and mathematical modeling of immunoPET data to estimate blood clearance rates of injected tracer. Regeneron's vibrant and collaborative science-first research culture guarantees there is always steady flow of exciting new projects to keep us busy.
Job Duties:
  • customize and run software pipelines for specialized image analysis tasks
  • programmatically produce summary spreadsheets, plots, visualizations, and reports of image-derived data
  • provide quality assurance/quality control of image analysis results
  • leverage APIs of image management and analysis software to streamline workflows (for batch processing, data collation, results management, QC, etc)
  • support use of commercial image analysis software including HALO, VivoQuant, iPACS, throughout the company
Experience and Required Skills:
  • strong quantitative background with B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar
  • 3+ years programming experience (Python, Matlab, C++, or similar); also, working knowledge of version control; experience with dedicated image processing libraries (e.g. ITK, Scikit Image, OpenCV) a plus
  • familiarity with 1 or more biomedical imaging modality
  • understanding of fundamental image processing concepts such as image registration, segmentation, classification, etc.
  • experience applying machine learning techniques (e.g. SVM with hand-crafted features; CNN for supervised classification of images; clustering methods for unsupervised learning)
  • Exceptional critical thinking, attention to detail, scientific rigor, and strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to shift focus between multiple projects while still meeting deadlines
  • A proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a larger project
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn new things
  • A passion for biology and helping others
  • A dedication to share, collaborate, and lift up others
Nice to have:
  • experience handling large datasets
  • experience using image analysis software such as ImageJ, Indica Labs HALO, VivoQuant, Amira, or others
  • experience programming with third party APIs
  • familiarity with AWS Docker containers
