Global Product General Manager

The Global Product General Manager (GPGM) is a critical role in the organization that has a significant impact on a product or set of products, at all stages of the product lifecycle. The GPGM is responsible for developing and delivering product strategy and for providing exceptional cross-functional team leadership. Success in this critical role will provide the opportunity for significant professional growth. The GPGM will be provided direct access to and coaching from Amgen's most senior executives. We are currently looking for a GPGM for several of our products/assets.

Primary responsibilities of this position: The GPGM serves as the single leader for the cross-functional Product Team with accountability for product strategy and leadership throughout the product lifecycle.

Additional key responsibilities include the following:

  • Delivering an integrated product strategy, which considers near and long-term broad, cross-functional impacts and region and country perspectives, accountability for the product value, profitability/product assumptions
  • Ensures strategy and assumptions are executable
  • Develops and articulates strategic options to make the best trade-off decisions for Amgen, global value and risk profile
  • Leadership and team performance, responsibility for Product Team performance management by setting and clearly communicating goals that align with a compelling vision
  • Articulating and taking risks with advice of team. Effectively utilizes the Amgen decision making framework for product decisions, accurately assess risk related to program decisions
  • Setting metrics to measure team performance, including planned vs. actual budgets, forecasts, timelines and deliverables
  • Delivering proactive program communications to functions, countries and regions, escalates issues and communicates decisions to all cross-functional team members and stakeholders
  • Generates high quality, focused communication of program needs and recommendations to executive management, responsibility for identifying what decisions are at the product, portfolio, functional, or regional levels

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree & 6 years of Drug Commercialization related experience OR

• Master's degree & 10 years of Drug Commercialization related experience OR

• Bachelor's degree & 12 years of Drug Commercialization experience AND

• 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong executive with superior cross-functional collaboration skills, highly effective influencing and leadership skills and the ability to operate across multiple geographies
  • Ability to synthesize different points of view to make sound and objective decisions
  • Proven skills in navigating within a highly matrixed environment
  • Strong understanding of the business and end-to-end drug commercialization and deep knowledge of the market
  • Proven skills and experience with formulating integrated, cross-functional strategies
  • A strong track record of effective decision making
  • Strong communication skills, including executive presence and strong presentation skills
  • Ability to lead with courage - Can comfortably confront and work through conflict, and is not afraid to make tough decisions and take quick action
  • Has a strong track record of delivering results through effective team and peer leadership
  • Has demonstrated self-awareness in previous roles
  • Ability to synthesize different points of view to make sound and objective decisions
