Grad Intern - OPS (Quality Data Sciences)

Employer
Amgen
Location
Thousand Oaks, CA, US
Start date
Mar 23, 2019

Job Details

Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates

Project Background: FDA regulated companies are required to trend patient complaints. Amgen Complaints are created and stored in an IRPC database and are identified as Level 1, 2 or 3 complaints. Each complaint is assigned Cause Codes for tracking and trending. Amgen recently committed to expanding the company's approach to complaint trending to include trending at the manufacturing "Pack Lot" level. Amgen is exploring a third level of complaint trending that utilizes machine learning methodologies to identify patterns between product complaints and manufacturing related components and measurements (for example drug product, syringe autoinjector).

Internship Project: The intern will create a working pilot of an automated machine learning Complaint Trending Report for a single combination product or multiple combination products using a limited set of Cause Codes. The intern will collaborate across multiple groups to identify the available data, establish a data pipeline for joining disparate data sources and feature generation, using machine learning methodologies for pattern recognition and creating a visualization for end users. An automated near-real-time Complaint trending report would identify trends or potential issues before those issues surface as more significant complaints. Amgen also believes this would be an industry-leading capability that regulators would recognize as best-in-class. The intern will gain experience in collecting and applying machine learning to data that span the value chain of Amgen operations.
