The Executive Director, Digital Health and Innovation (DH&I) will lead a group of 4-5 Directors as well as have dotted line responsibilities for all enabling functions (Law, Regulatory & Compliance) with a focus on defining, executing, facilitating, and scaling rapid execution of experiments, in pursuit of Amgen's Ambition and the Digital Health and Innovation charter and strategy. This role will:
  • Ensure project execution through robust yet flexible processes along the innovative project pathway
  • Develop robust governance and sponsor engagement processes to ensure successful transition of projects to long-term business owners
  • Ensure processes and relationships can support an integrated approach to scale and platform development for key digital projects to enhance the patient journey
  • Identify project opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency across the Amgen value chain
  • Leverage design thinking and similar techniques to ensure end-user requirements are included in project design as early as possible
  • Resolve issues and roadblocks escalated from experiment teams to facilitate rapid execution
  • In coordination with the DH&I Leadership Team, facilitate engagement with relevant stakeholders outside of DH&I to partner most effectively across Amgen to achieve DH&I's mission
  • Evaluate experiment alignment with DH&I's mission and strategy
  • Identify portfolio gaps and recommend modifications to balance the portfolio
  • Develop perspectives on alternative experiment execution strategies (e.g. out-licensing)
  • Ensure project execution, portfolio visualization, monitoring, escalation of issues, budget management, etc.
  • Ensure Project data engineering needs met
  • Facilitate Agile ways of working across projects and functions
  • Develop long term data, platform, app standards / Amgen design, etc. strategy to enable sustainability of innovation
  • Expected Travel: 25%-35%

    Expected Output:
  • Ensure success of DH&I experiments and scale 2-3 projects minimum each year
  • Responsible for ensuring continuity with key IS Leaders on scaling of platforms - and helping drive necessary changes in technology platforms globally
  • Improved and streamline overall processes and governance for DH&I projects supporting growth transformation - both strategic/business and legal/compliance & regulatory
  • Provide leadership and development support for 4-5 Directors in support of the next leaders of the organization as well as have dotted line responsibility for all enabling functional heads including Law, Regulatory and Compliance as well co-lead global network of tech hub and innovation leads

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of directly related experience OR
  • Master's degree & 10 years of directly related years OR
  • Bachelor's degree & 12 years of directly related experience
    AND
  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or 6-8 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Experience in working at Digital startups a plus
  • Consulting experience if applicable in areas of Digital Delivery a plus
  • Bio-Tech or Pharma experience in an integrated technology environment
  • Commercial experience in a Pharma Company is a plus
  • Ability to translate the commercial issues for brands from aspirations solutions that enhance the patient journey
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to set the context and present on complex subjects to senior management in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong leadership, project management, negotiation, planning, and organizational change management skills
  • 8-10 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated skills in staff motivation, coaching/mentoring and professional development
  • Experience working cross-functionally and building collaborative working relationships; interfacing effectively with Operations and IS senior and executive management to resolve issues
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, ability to see the big picture, ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and facilitate decision-making
  • Innovative to bring Digital Health & Innovation to its full potential
  • Strong decision making and leadership skills to be able to manage a senior team and ensure quality work is executed
  • Strong communication skills and executive presence
  • Problem solving, synthesis and cross-functional integration capabilities
  • Strong analytical quantitative skills
  • Change management and transformation skills
  • Ability to be agile and adjust priorities as AFP & Commercial priorities change/evolve
  • Reliability in order to work closely and effectively with many different teams

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering transformational initiatives to deliver business value in the commercial sector
  • Demonstrated skills in maintaining pace with changes in healthcare industry and information technology to maintain competitive advantage
  • Ability to both influence and operate effectively in a highly matrixed and global environment
