The Senior Manager is responsible for leading and managing multiple manufacturing areas and teams in the Amgen Thousand Oaks, Building 20 facility and ensuring production is maintained in full cGMP compliance. This role requires the individual to:
  • Supervise, manage, lead, coach, hire, and develop front line managers and staff ensuring production schedules and manufacturing commitments are delivered in a safe, compliant, professional and productive manner.
  • Demonstrate Amgen Values and Leadership Attributes and ensure expectations are met for all short and long-term site operational goals related to our production areas, and our staff .
  • The Senior Manager is responsible for developing, integrating and sharing best practices to ensure manufacturing targets are delivered.

Responsibilities include:


• Focuses on people in the organization to ensure an engaged motivated workforce eand to ensure consistent clear communication which is aligned across the leadership team.

• Foster safety culture within the area (SEE Cards, First Aid Incidents monitoring, INCA documents closure, etc.)

• Establishes department mission, translates vision, engages organization, and delivers team results to achieve the organizational vision.

• Develops, maintains, and delivers results to departmental goals.

• Assesses department capacity against the long-range plan for products or potential products manufactured in the plant.


• Evaluates and approves reports and protocols.

• Ensures cGMP and CFR compliance of operating areas.

• Revises, updates, and reviews procedures

• Manages the development and revision of SOPs.

• Evaluates current operating procedures and recommend changes to management to optimize production.

• Assures all corporate change control procedures are followed, and Regulatory and QA are notified prior to the changes.

• Interacts with the health agencies (FDA, EMA, etc.)

• Ensure Amgen policies and best practices are followed


• Ensures maintenance and revalidation of systems.

• Collaborates with cross-functional teams (i.e. QA/QC, F&E, PD, Regulatory, etc.) in completing production activities.

• Develops, implements and assesses solutions for complex problems.

• Responsible for resolving problems during operation.

• Oversees set up of critical new manufacturing processes

• Leads his direct reports and associates within his scope to support Lean Transformation Roadmap; increase Lean Culture within area (WCT/Uptime/Yellow and Green Belts)

• Leads Continuous Improvement Activities of his/her functional group to improve productivity

• Role Model regarding the CI Culture by means of daily use of his PPOF; foster / develop effective initiatives that significantly impacts efficiency of the area.

• Mentors his direct reports and team on problem solving tools, basic equipment and process troubleshooting.


• Responsible for planning, developing and maintaining the department budget, particularly area expenses and OT

• Establishes department wide business practices; communicates consistent messages.

• Interacts with site efforts to ensure consistency in policies and practices

• Establishes and supports department mission statements

• Establishes department wide business practices

• Optimizes department resources

• Drives and leads daily work center team; active role on leadership weekly meeting

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience


Master's degree and 6 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience


Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Manufacturing and Operations experience


2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Life Science, Chemistry or Engineering
  • 7 years of related manufacturing experience
  • 5+ years of experience in an Area Supervisor/Manager role
  • Ability to lead at all levels of the organization and effectively partner throughout the organization and across functions.
  • Demonstrated project management and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement methodologies
