Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) within the broader Finance and Global Business Solutions organization, provides strategic oversight and execution to manage our broad external spend. GSS utilizes a standard sourcing process

The Intern in Sourcing Excellence will have the opportunity to learn about strategic sourcing in a complex corporate setting while supporting key strategic projects to help execute the sourcing processes across a variety of Commercial, R&D and Amgen Operations'/Manufacturing categories as part of the GSS department. The Intern will report to the Director of Sourcing Excellence and will work out of the Amgen Capability Center located in Tampa, Florida. Our new Tampa Capability Center provides essential services that enable us to better pursue the mission of Amgen. This state-of-the art center serves as a base for finance, information systems, and human resources professionals to make a meaningful impact at one of the world's leading biotechnology companies.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

Develop and deliver a meaningful project to drive value for GSS in Tampa in the following process area:

Supporting the Execution of Global/Regional Sourcing Strategies
  • Help teams align and agree on priorities with appropriate global and regional category managers (GCM/RCM)
  • Support supplier analysis and market intelligence activities
  • Drive improved analytics on our Sourcing process, developing reports and metrics to help manage the process
  • Ensure sourcing tactics drive value in specific functional business environments, including legal & regulatory context
  • Implement supplier improvement programs within key supplier relationships


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree Concentration(s) in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field

Junior in standing

Interest in the strategic sourcing process as part of a large corporate firm

Interest and some knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer's business context (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)

Demonstrated experience in identifying and utilizing full set of sourcing levers to drive value for customers

Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations

Strong financial experience and insight as well as high business acumen

Strong analysis experience, developing metrics, reports, and analytical models

Reasonable understanding of sourcing and procurement processes

Ability to analyze, summarize, and present insights based on the needs of the audience

Independent self-starter

Demonstrated track record of identifying root causes to issues and proactively problem solving

Demonstrated success in partnering cross-functionally or with multiple stakeholder groups

Ability to own and strengthen relationships with key users

Compelling and persuasive communicator (oral and written) with excellent interpersonal skills
