We are seeking an immune cell engineering Scientist/Senior Scientist to join our Functional Genomics group in Berkeley. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of immunology as it relates to tumor biology and have a strong record of being able to move projects forward to product development. This is an opportunity for a talented scientist to work in a highly matrixed team environment to drive discovery and shape Caribou’s next-generation cell therapy programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with a highly matrixed team to develop and advance preclinical allogeneic CAR-T cell programs targeting liquid and/or solid tumors
  • Platform development to engineer a diverse range of immune cell types
  • Creative thinking to propose and implement innovative cell engineering approaches to expand Caribou’s preclinical pipeline and intellectual property
  • Designing, coordinating, executing, and analyzing in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Communicating results clearly and concisely internally and externally
  • Keeping accurate record of experiments and results

Candidate must possess:

  • PhD in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Hands-on proficiency in primary immune cell isolation and culture
  • Experience in planning and executing in vitro functional assays to characterize primary immune cells including, but not limited to, cytotoxicity assays, cytokine/chemokine measurements, and proliferation assessment
  • Experience in multi-parameter flow cytometry and data analysis
  • Hands-on experience with cell-line derived, PDX, or GEM murine tumor models
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential in our collaborative research environment
  • Ability to develop and mentor a team of researchers
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment and ability to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

Desired experience:

  • Deep understanding of cell-engineering techniques
  • Prior experience with cell therapies or other biologics
  • Work in pharmaceutical or biotechnology company focused on immuno-oncology
  • Understanding of regulatory guidelines for cell therapies
