Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

Summary
We are seeking a biophysical chemist to provide analytical protein characterization through the use of cutting-edge biophysical technologies in the Protein Biochemistry group at Regeneron. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing in-depth biophysical and biochemical characterization of therapeutic proteins to support mid-late stage development programs. The candidate is expected to take on a leading role in applying a diverse array of advanced biophysical techniques to deepen our knowledge of late stage biotherapeutic proteins and their inherent heterogeneity to support regulatory application for commercialization.

Responsibilities

• Independently designs and conducts protein biophysical and biochemical experiments; analyzes data to elucidate quality attributes of therapeutic protein candidates and/or products.

• Provides biophysical support for both upstream and downstream functional groups; helps solve development problems in real-time.

• Takes a leading role in late stage development efforts to characterize size/charge variants, protein-ligand complexes, and high concentration protein solutions of therapeutic protein drug candidates.

• Documents experiments, results and findings in laboratory notebook; presents work at group and department meetings; contributes to drafting of analytical characterization reports, regulatory submission sections, and peer-reviewed articles for publication.

• May serve as a team representative in drug candidate-specific development team meetings, and share knowledge and expertise of biophysical chemistry at cross-function team meetings.

• May provide some assistance to Research Associates conducting research and developmental work.

• Participates in the general lab and instrument maintenance.
Requirements

• PhD in biophysical chemistry, molecular biophysics, or biochemistry with 0-3 years post-doctoral training in analytical protein characterization; experience in or collaboration with the biopharmaceutical industry an advantage.

• Demonstrated ability to apply a variety of biophysical techniques to study one or more of the following: protein-ligand complex formation, protein aggregation pathways, and/or high concentration protein solution dynamics.

• Demonstrated expertise in analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC), light scattering (static and/or dynamic), and spectroscopic (e.g. CD, fluorescence, FTIR, and/or Raman) principles and applications for analysis of proteins; working knowledge of NMR a plus.

• Extensive hands-on experience in performing and trouble-shooting size-based separation techniques, with a particular focus on AUC (sedimentation velocity / equilibrium) required.

• Experience with fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and/or field flow fractionation highly desired.

• Strong command of general protein folding, structure, and thermodynamics.

• High degree of proficiency in a variety of computer software for acquiring and analyzing light scattering, capillary electrophoresis, spectroscopic, and chromatographic data (e.g. ASTRA, 32 Karat, Empower).

• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

• A passion for science and innovation with a strong commitment to continual improvement and making significant contributions in a team environment.

This is an opportunity to join our select team that is already leading the way in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry. Apply today and learn more about Regeneron's unwavering commitment to combining good science & good business.
