- Selecting form, material option and defining powder property criteria.
- Fundamental knowledge to inform risk and support form and powder property control strategy
- Solid state characterization of drug substances and drug products and their key intermediates.
- Investigation of structure-property relationship to aid drug substance and drug product development.
The group is seeking an entry level scientist with background in X-ray crystallography, X-ray diffraction, and solid-state characterization.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
- To design and execute single crystal growth experiments of drug molecules to help identify polymorph, salt & co-crystal form candidates.
- To determine the crystal structures of small molecule drug candidates and key intermediates and to provide insights into the relationship between physicochemical properties and molecular packing and intermolecular interactions in the solid-state and how this may impact drug substance and drug product development.
- To maintain crystallography laboratory instruments and coordinate with instrument vendors on instrument trouble-shootings and services
- To conduct crystallization/recrystallization experiments small and/or poor crystallinity samples
- To perform solid state characterization of drug substances using various analytical techniques such as PXRD, TGA, DSC, spectroscopy, PLM and DVS.
- To keep track of innovation and new technology in the field of pharmaceutical materials science and crystallography and collaborate with external partners.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Materials Science or a related field with 0-3 years of relevant work experience.
- M.Sc. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Materials Science or a related field with 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
- Hands-on experience and expertise in single crystal & powder X-ray diffraction, crystallography, crystallization, form selection and solid-state characterization.
- Hands on experience in crystallization/recrystallization is highly desirable.
- Knowledge in physical and solid-state chemistry of organic molecules.
