The Global System and Standards team is looking for an energetic, self-motivated, and innovative individual for a position as an Architect. This position is an individual contributor. The successful candidate shall possess the skills required to successfully develop and execute project tasks and deliverables, be a collaborative team player, and have a strong drive to deliver with excellence to customers. This person will provide Architecture leadership and guidance over global facility projects. The Architect SME is responsible for coordinating with other engineering disciplines including other architects, mechanical, clean utilities, I&C, electrical and also site personnel to ensure the design requirements are met. Project sizes will vary, and will consist primarily of Bio Pharm/Pharma Facilities & Utilities projects including both renovations / retrofits within existing facilities and new construction projects. The Architect SME will be responsible for staying current with technology and innovation in the industry related to their expertise as well as maintaining and update the engineering standards and specifications. The successful candidate will be expected to represent AbbVie Systems and Standards in a professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate and/or update Facility standards and specifications for the AbbVie Systems and Standards department.
  • Stay current with the latest regulatory guidance and industry best practice in the area of practice such as but not limited to manufacturing and laboratory design and finish schedules.
  • Develop standardized functional facility designs & finish schedules for AbbVie manufacturing and laboratory spaces.
  • Review existing facility designs and provide recommendations that address regulatory issues and/or improve efficiency.
  • Stay current with the latest architectural practices and bring innovative approaches into the AbbVie Standards and Specifications
  • Support projects by reviewing the design of Facilities and providing expert guidance to comply with the AbbVie Standards and Specifications.
  • Support projects through all phases of execution including front end planning efforts and direct/review the development of detailed construction documents for these facilities.
  • Ability to develop and present continuing education topics internally.

Basic:
  • Degree in Architecture
  • 10 plus years of relevant experience required.
  • Expert in developing process strategies/philosophies for Architecture in pharmaceutical preferred
  • Experienced in FDA, EMA, cGMPs and other regulatory standards and requirements for architecture.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of cGMP as ISPE guidelines in architecture.
  • A basic understanding of government regulations such as EPA, hazardous waste regulations, local and federal environmental regulations, and OSHA chemical hygiene plans.
  • Ability to present facility designs to project and site clients
  • Ability to author standards
  • Ability to direct facility design activities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Experience working in/with Revit and CAD preferred.
