Job Details
In this role, you will join a motivated team of scientists contributing to Amgen's diverse discovery and development portfolio of therapeutic modalities with a focus on evaluating the absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination (ADME) properties of small molecule therapeutic candidates. You will routinely interface with PKDM and therapeutic area colleagues across multiple Amgen research sites (Cambridge, MA, San Francisco, CA and Thousand Oaks, CA) to influence all stages of our drug discovery efforts, from early screening through IND-filing and beyond. In addition, the position will involve making innovative contributions to the fundamental understanding of drug biodistribution for small molecule and protein therapeutic modalities.
Core responsibilities of this position:
- Conduct and optimize in vitro ADME studies that evaluate metabolic stability (microsomes and hepatocytes), protein binding (plasma and various tissue matrices), and drug-drug interaction potential (P450 inhibition and induction) of small molecule therapeutic candidates
- Utilize appropriate cell culture techniques to support in vitro ADME, biodistribution (including use of microfluidic devices) and drug target characterization efforts
- Perform mass spectrometry-based bioanalysis in support of in vitro ADME studies
- Analyze, interpret and report preclinical ADME data
Beyond the core responsibilities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to explore mechanistic inquiries into the fundamental physiological and biochemical factors that determine the ADME characteristics of small molecule and protein therapeutics. Interactions with colleagues in our multiple therapeutic areas or in the external scientific community will be highly encouraged.
Basic Qualifications
Master's degree and 3 years of research experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of research experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or biological field of study
- 5+ years of drug discovery and/or development experience
- Expertise with implementing, optimizing and troubleshooting in vitro ADME assays
- Experience with cell culture techniques
- Working knowledge of multiple bioanalytical platforms (mass spectrometry) is a plus.
- Critical thinking and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with team members
- Effective oral and written communication skills
