Amgen's Neuroscience Research Therapeutic Area based in Cambridge, MA is looking for a highly qualified and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the role of glial cells and the complement system on tau aggregation characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. This is part of a collaboration with Dr. Cynthia Lemere of Brigham & Women's Hospital (BWH) and the successful candidate will work both, at Amgen as well as at BWH to implement multiple in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. These techniques include molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and the use of mouse models of disease.
The tenure for this postdoc role is 2-years with the option to renew for an additional year; for a total of three years.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and execute experimental strategies to understand the role of glial cells and the complement system on protein aggregation, especially tau protein
- Establish in vitro cell cellular assays including phagocytosis, clearance and aggregation (cell lines and/or iPSC and primary mouse brain cells)
- Tissue collection from mouse models of disease
- Implementation of multiple state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, histology, FACs, microscopy, RNA isolation for RNAseq, and qPCR
- Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results at lab meetings at both locations
- Publish/present findings in peer-reviewed journals/scientific conferences
- Maintain accurate records of experiments and analyses
- Maintain effective communication with manager and other colleagues at both, Amgen and BWH
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field at the time of appointment
Previous first-author publication(s) in internationally recognized journals
Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment
Excellent speaking, reading and writing skills
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Willingness to work independently
