Job Details

The ligand binding assay (LBA) group in the DMPK Department at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA, supports immunology discovery programs on biologics therapeutics. In addition, the LBA group has global responsibilities in providing non-GLP LBA bioanalysis support for biologics projects across all therapeutic areas at AbbVie.

The Scientist/Sr. Scientist will lead and perform LBA method development to support non-GLP pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, immunogenicity and biomarker measurements. The Scientist/ Sr. Scientist will be committed to excellence and high quality results in the complex laboratory analysis at the bench. The candidate will also work closely with DMPK project representatives to ensure alignment and manage timelines.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design LBA assay based on scientific and project need.
  • Perform LBA method development for both large molecule bioanalysis and biomarker analysis in a timely manner.
  • Perform biomarker sample analysis using LBA platform to support discovery project. Utilize ELN and automation tools as needed.
  • Driving the cutting-edge science of ligand-binding assays and newest technologies within the group. Provide trainings to junior staf
  • Work closely with management and project representatives to ensure alignment and manage timelines.

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
  • Masters and 5+ years of industry experience required (minimum)
  • Extensive experience in LBA bioanalytical method development field.
  • Proficient with different LBA platforms. Experience with MSD platform is critical.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues, propose solutions and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of operational process optimization and workflow design. Ability to adjust assay format to improve downstream assay performance and sample analysis efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD and 0+ years of industry experience or Master's and 8+ years of industry experience
  • PhD and 2+ years of industry experience strongly preferred


The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience in supporting high-throughput LBA bioanalysis including automation
  • Familiarity with electronic notebooks and other electronic tools is expected
