Job Details

The Associate Director, Global Risk will establish and maintain a thorough understanding of AbbVie's business and develops partnerships across the organization to identify, quantify, manage and monitor risk as well as provide subject matter expertise. The Associate Director is responsible for assisting the Director with strategic priorities, leads select insurance placements, and conducts contract reviews and due diligence. The Associate Director supervises the Senior Risk Analyst.

Key Responsibilities Include:

The Associate Director will assist the Director with strategic priorities. This will include:

  • Implement the strategic vision and support activities to achieve short-and long-term goals of the risk management function
  • Identify, develop, recommend and implement appropriate strategies, policies, procedures, and systems to improve AbbVie's risk profile as well as quantify, mitigate, manage and monitor risk across the organization
  • Lead continuous operational improvement efforts for the risk management team
  • Evaluate new risk financing techniques, including a captive, present recommendations to senior management and lead implementation and management of approved recommendations
  • Work collaboratively to create a vision for the risk management department that develops and leverages next generation analytics capabilities. Senior Risk Manager will research additional theories and technologies in predictive analytics, generate ideas for transforming data into practical models, and explore business application in aim of improving decision-making and business performance
  • Introduce innovative and value-add solutions that respond to a growing and changing biopharma company
  • Partner with business units to provide subject matter expertise and support efforts that enable the business

 


Risk and Insurance

The Associate Director is responsible for leading several key risk areas and insurance placements. Ideal candidate should have knowledge of, and experience with, property and casualty insurance markets and risk transfer solutions as well as a working knowledge of Biopharma operations, products and risks. The Associate Director will:

 

 

  • Present company risk exposures to external insurance vendors and negotiate favorable insurance terms and prices.
  • Direct purchase of insurance programs
  • Manage related service vendors (brokers, TPAs, insurers)
  • Direct, provide oversight, and coordinate of all aspects of the insurance programs including exposure gathering, claims management, related loss control activities and program implementation
  • Assist the Director with Directors and Officers coverage and Financial Lines.
  • Prepare loss analysis and budgets related to assigned coverages
  • Educate business partners, including subsidiaries, of insurance coverages and related risk management efforts

 


Contract Reviews and Due Diligence

The Associate Director will support business partners in contractual risk matters. This Associate Director will:

 

 

  • Draft and communicate appropriate contractual standards for identified risk areas
  • Negotiate contract provisions
  • Provide guidance for risk-related sections of contracts, including insurance requirements, indemnification and limitations of liability
  • Lead due diligence, as required

 


Basic:

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field required.
  • Master degree in business, finance, or related field desirable.

 

  • At least 10 years of experience of risk management or related experience
  • Experience working in a large, global organization
  • Strong communication skills with high articulation ability, including executive messaging
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proven experience in driving change through influence; and
  • Excellent demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to lead teams, produce and maintain timelines, create dashboards, track metrics, and assemble project information into clearly written reports that document findings, actions and progress.
