ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, INFORMATICS

Position Summary:

GBT is seeking an informatics professional to lead the continuing expansion of informatics capabilities at GBT through the development, acquisition and implementation of software and systems. This individual will be expected to establish close partnerships with colleagues from multiple disciplines to translate business needs into state-of-the-art informatics solutions. He/She will be expected to set the vision for GBT informatics and to champion solutions that facilitate the company's success. This individual will primarily support our scientists, project teams and scientific departments and also enable informatics solutions for other groups such as business development and legal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with scientists to identify needs; recommend and implement commercially available and/or custom-made software solutions for data analysis and management; integrate existing and future procedures to enable standardized data handling and reporting
  • Independently write, debug, test and deploy software for data analysis and systems for life science research operations
  • Write documentation and training materials to educate staff and collaborators in use of systems; train users
  • Transition Research Informatics platform to the cloud
  • Assist in annual budget planning
  • Manage incoming requests for enhancements, bug fixes, etc. and provide timely solutions
  • As necessary, engage contractors, consultants and vendors to execute projects
  • May represent the company at scientific and professional meetings
  • Maintain strong knowledge of informatics best practices

Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree in science or informatics with at least 8 years of industry experience in a biotech/pharma informatics group
  • Expert understanding & experience on relational databases e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server
  • Fluent computer programmer with experience utilizing the following programming languages: Java, C#, .NET, VB 6, PL/SQL, JavaScript, JSON, HTML/DHTML, XML
  • Experience utilizing open source software build tools (Ant, Maven)
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies and their applications in providing solutions to end users
  • Proficient user of UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Proficient in scientific data modeling using tools such as XLfit, SigmaPlot, Prism, R, etc.
  • Strong skills in web usability and application design
  • Background in science preferred
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • Effective organizational, record keeping, and communication skills
  • Track record of success in drug discovery informatics (ELN, LIMS, EDMS)
  • Proficient understanding of drug discovery and development
