The AbbVie Experiential Summer Intern Program is a paid, 12 week internship available in two sessions. Session 1 will start at the end of May (semester system) and session 2 will start in early June (quarter system). The program is focused on providing students with original pharmaceutical development projects, based on business need. You'll do meaningful work that has a real impact on our business and patients worldwide.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position is within our CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) group. In this department you will gain real-world biopharmaceutical industry experience and exposure to many related areas of drug development, such as cell line development, protein purification, pharmaceutical development/formulation, and analytical sciences. This position is within the Bioassay Development group.
The summer intern will: 1) undertake the task of evaluating various cell-based assay formats for measuring the functional potency of a molecule with complex MOA, and 2) further develop the preferred assay format to optimize its performance for use as a critical characterization test method. He/She will learn and apply tools, such as cell culture, live cell imaging, ELISA, and flow cytometry to understand and establish a robust cell-based assay that can be used to support drug development in CMC. In addition, the individual will gain valuable exposure to all aspects of drug development processes, including discovery, preclinical, cell line/cell culture development, purification, and analytical chemistry.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate level program at an accredited university
- Pursuing a BS degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related field
- Available for the entire 12-weeks in session 1 (semester system) or session 2 (quarter system)
- Completed at least 1 year of undergraduate level studies prior to internship experience
- Strong academic performance with minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (4.0 Scale)
- Returning to university for at least 1 semester/quarter post-internship
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Cell Culture, pipetting, qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills
