We are an exciting start-up company based in Mountain View using advanced techniques such as optogenetics, physiology, imaging, and animal behavior to translate therapies for neurological diseases.We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated team member who will become a key contributor to our research and development and translation process. As an active member of the team, this person will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks primarily involving developing and implementing optogenetic tools for therapy; establishing and validating translational approaches.  This position requires surgical experience, animal handling, and behavioral assay in disease settings.  Experience with cell culture and in-vitro electrophysiology will be a significant advantage.  This role requires excellent communication, judgment and organizational skills in order to collaborate with the research team, and to effectively manage a significant and complex workload.  We offer a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively perform laboratory work on developing surgical approaches, survival surgeries, viral injections, and some in-vitro assays, behavioral assays, immunohistochemistry/ microscopy
  • Investigating and developing new methods and technologies for project advancement
  • Developing and executing experiments to meet regulatory demands for therapy development
  • Interaction with external contact research organizations (CROs)
  • Interface on a regular basis with scientific team to shape strategic direction; organize, coordinate schedule; design and execute experimental work

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree from an accredited college/university in a field related to biomedical research or neuroscience, preferably PhD degree.  System neuroscience training and experience is a plus
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively advancing responsibilities and technical experience
  • Significant industry and/or academic lab experience
  • Strong expertise in animal surgery, behavioral assessment, and translational development
  • Expertise with optogenetic tools applied in a neurological disease study or electrophysiology would be a plus
  • Record of publication in top tier journals is a plus
  • Strong communication skills to interact and work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Desire to be part of a dynamic, start-up company
