Job Details

The Director, Analytics and Forecasting will actively influence commercial strategy of Portola’s product portfolio. Specifically, s/he will be responsible for designing, executing, and managing forecasting, analytics, and other ad hoc analytics activities. This person will collaborate with cross-functional partners within and outside of Commercial to identify critical business objectives and will develop and implement analysis plans to address these key strategic issues. This person must be able to engage diverse audiences, possess strong analytical skills with an ability to translate findings into actionable insights.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Serve as an active member of the Commercial Operations & Analytics Team.
  • Manage revenue and unit forecast assumptions in short- and long-range forecasts. Optimize forecast design (e.g., patient flow models, epidemiology sources, etc.) based on organizational needs. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify data required to deliver key insights into business/sales performance. Translate the data and learning into actionable recommendations for business growth.
  • Design and develop prescriptive and predictive analytical approaches leveraging primary market research and secondary data sources.
  • Execute and implement analytical solutions in support of business opportunity and risk assessment, customer segmentation and targeting, promotion response and return on investment analytics.
  • Analyze data to provide ongoing strategic guidance to brand and development teams; Identify potential opportunities and threats.
  • Support commercial planning of products in development, including evaluation of market opportunities.
  • Build strategic thought partnerships and resolve key business issues with cross-functional partners across marketing, sales, market access, clinical, finance, and manufacturing. 
  • Demonstrate analytics thought leadership and represent Portola at key meetings, functions, and conferences, etc., when appropriate.
  • Build analytics and forecasting team as company grows.  

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

  • BA or BS with concentration in Life Sciences, Marketing, or Business; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years progressive experience in forecasting, strategic planning and analytics
  • Biotech or pharmaceutical US marketplace experience required.
  • Global and/or international experience preferred.
  • Hands on, in-depth understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience with pharmaceutical data sources (e.g., IQVIA, SHA, etc.)
  • Can deal with ambiguity and can act without having the complete picture
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including ability to synthesize data and deliver a clear overview of commercial strategy, opportunity and risks for a variety of audiences (Sales leadership, Executive Committee, etc)
