Job Details

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the AbbVie Global Biologics Discovery organization. This individual will contribute to the development and testing of novel fusion proteins and to the exploration of protease activation/localization in normal vs. diseased tissues. Expertise in protease and extracellular matrix biology in mammalian systems preferred, as well as scientific knowledge of one or more of the following: Immunology, Oncology and Immuno-Oncology therapeutic areas. This individual will work in drug discovery cross-functional teams both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute hands on scientific research involving screening of recombinant tool and therapeutic proteins, including antigens, antibodies, fusion proteins and multi-specific biologics.
  • Apply various in vitro analytical methods to characterize and test recombinant proteins in relevant biochemical and cellular experiments.
  • Work collaboratively with matrixed project teams and members of the Global Biologics Group to drive innovation and deliver novel therapies for patients.
  • Develop productive collaborations and communication with other groups across therapeutic areas.
  • Timely documentation of experiments and activities in electronic archive systems.
  • Engage colleagues in cross-disciplinary scientific discussion, present scientific data to internal and external audiences and publish research in peer-reviewed journals.


Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • BS or MS degree in biological sciences with 5-7+ (BS) or 2-5+ (MS) years of relevant experience in academic or biotech/pharmaceutical industry setting or equivalent
  • Extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture/transfection and in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (such as ELISA, western blot, FACs & cell-based activity assays) necessary.
  • Hands-on experience in ex vivo tissue fractionation (to isolate extracellular matrix, cell membranes and cytosol) and cell fractionation (organelle isolation) preferred.
  • Experience in biochemistry and cellular biology of proteases is preferred.
  • Experience with in vivo rodent models (xenograft, CIA and IBD) a plus.
  • Experience in protein engineering, CRISPR a plus.
  • Strong communication and organization skills, especially the ability to work across multiple scientific disciplines and functions.
  • Strong record of performance and scientific accomplishments as demonstrated by impactful contributions to the scientific community, pipeline contributions, peer reviewed publications and patent applications.
