General Position Summary/Purpose:

The successful internship candidate will work within the Translational Medicine Department performing independent laboratory research and data analysis supporting translational research. Specifically, the intern will contribute to a project assessing cell-to-cell variability using single cell gene expression technology. This project will apply data from cell clonotype and gene expression analysis to contribute to mechanism of action studies and novel biomarker discovery. Methodologies to be utilized may include sterile cell culture, flow cytometry, assay development, and statistical and bioinformatic analysis.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
 

  • Handling of human clinical samples following internal SOP.
  • Independent execution of experiments once fully trained
  • Maintaining detailed records of all experiments in laboratory notebook
  • Monitoring laboratory supplies and maintaining equipment in functional order
  • Data collection and data management
  • Weekly presentation to team and occasional presentation to the Translational Medicine Team


Education Requirements:

 

 

  • Must be current MS/PhD student majoring in Biological Sciences or a related field
  • Must have completed undergraduate- and/or graduate-level statistics coursework
  • Be an active student in good standing at an accredited university.


Preferred Skills/Abilities:

 

 

 

 

  • Working knowledge of cancer biology, particularly immuno-oncology, and immune cells
  • Experience with a scientific programming language (R, Matlab, Python) is a bonus
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and in a collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills


Final Presentation

Each Intern is expected to prepare a short presentation to their team to share what they have learned through their internship and how they hope their new knowledge will help them secure their future career. Presentations may be approximately 10-15 minutes long and should include visual aid (posters or PowerPoint.
