The Executive Director of Amgen's Early Oncology Pipeline is a critical role in the Commercial Marketing organization. Responsibilities include leading the US Commercial Oncology New Product Development Team, focused on building successful brands and franchises within Amgen's early oncology pipeline by providing commercial guidance on development of early stage assets, developing and implementing US launch strategies, optimizing the impact of marketing budgets and supporting business development's efforts to license and acquire external assets.

The ED of Early Oncology Pipeline within the US is a complex and demanding position and will require a strong commercial executive with excellent marketing capabilities, strong analytical skills, superior cross-functional collaboration skills, the ability to operate globally and locally with highly effective influencing skills. Success in this critical role may result in significant professional growth and further advancement at Amgen.

Key responsibilities of this position:

The ED of Early Oncology Pipeline US serves as primary US Oncology Business Unit (OBU) interface with Global Marketing, Medical, Research & Development and Operations in the development of Amgen's Early Oncology assets.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:
  • Leading a New Product Development team, focused on early oncology pipeline assets
  • Key contributor of the Product Team (PT)
  • Situation analysis and brand plan leadership which includes product strategy, strategic imperatives, behavioral objectives, and tactics with associated budget and resource needs
  • Communicate the US vision and strategies throughout the organization
  • Development and execution of US Commercial Plan, including building brand marketing team for launch assets
  • Ensuring that Amgen maximizes the value of its early oncology assets
  • Leading all oncology marketing activities for early asset product development
  • Provide Commercial input on Business Development efforts
  • Manage and coordinate with our cross-functional partners


Key activities and accountabilities include the following:
  • Communicate commercial vision for oncology early asset portfolio
  • Ensure timeliness and quality of key commercial inputs
  • Forge strong relationships and cross-functional collaboration
  • Represent commercial interests on Research Project Teams and licensing teams
  • Lead Insight and Brand Platform Team
  • Lead development and implementation of US Commercial Plan
  • Develop and maintain core positioning and branding and ensure execution
  • Set/coordinate US pre-launch market development strategy
  • Develop market forecast pre-phase 2 and oversee aggregate forecast post-phase 2


Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of Marketing experience OR
  • Master's degree & 10 years of Marketing experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree & 12 years of Marketing experience AND
  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources


Preferred Qualifications
  • An MBA is strongly preferred
  • At least eight years of experience in a series of commercial roles of increasing scope, scale and complexity, with leading companies in the bio pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience developing and implementing innovative global marketing and commercial strategies for pipeline products, successfully launching therapeutic products and re-positioning products to maximize commercial value. Prior experience launching oncology products is highly desirable.
  • Broad oncology expertise. Has worked in diverse commercial roles supporting several different disease states, on products in various stages of the life cycle, with a diverse set of customers in challenging and competitive markets.
  • Prior experience in a tactical, "line" marketing role, implementing marketing strategies in local markets, is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of global market access, pricing and reimbursement issues.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment, managing global projects involving multiple functions and shared accountability.
  • Experience supporting product licensing and acquisition transactions. Has contributed commercial expertise in evaluating internal assets and prioritizing external opportunities. Has supported transactions by conducting due diligence, evaluating market dynamics, contributing modeling assumptions, and assisting with valuation.
