Senior Manager, Alliance Management and Special Projects
The Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, whose goals are to apply large scale human genetics to identify new drug targets and to guide the development of therapeutics programs and precision medicine. Building upon Regeneron's strengths in mouse genetics and genetics-driven drug discovery and development, the RGC specializes in ultra-high-throughput exome sequencing, large scale informatics and data analysis encompassing genomics and electronic health records, and translating genetic discoveries into new biology and drug discovery opportunities. The RGC leverages multiple approaches including large population based studies, Mendelian genetics and family based studies, founder population genetics, and large-scale disease focused projects and has developed a network of over 50 collaborations with research organizations around the world. Including some of the largest sequencing studies in the world, such as the DiscovEHR study in collaboration with Geisinger Health System, and an initiative to sequence 500,000 participants with the UK Biobank, the RGC has built one of the largest human genetics databases, including sequence data from over several hundred thousand participants and rapidly growing. Our interests encompass a breadth of different areas across all therapeutic areas and the RGC is highly integrated into all facets of research and development at Regeneron. Program goals include target discovery, indication discovery, and patient-disease stratification. Objectives include advancing basic science around the world through public sharing of discoveries, providing clinically-valuable insights to physicians and providers of collaborating health-care systems, improving patient outcomes, and identifying novel targets for drug development.
The Senior Manager role will have primary responsibilities in supporting the Strategic Partnerships & Business Operations team at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) in leading the Alliance Management Program, meaning the support of contracted partnerships and collaborations. In this function, the Alliance Manager will assure that all terms and conditions of our collaboration agreements are being met by the parties, in addition to addressing any operational and performance concerns the collaboration parties may have in the execution of the agreement. In this role, the Senior Manager will support the Head of the PBO Strategic Partnering Team to assure continuity in partner relations.
In addition, the Senior Manager will be asked to support "special projects" assigned to PBO that require due diligence, operational planning and execution that fall outside of the core Strategic Partnering functions.
The Senior Manager will be a member of the PBO management team.
Alliance Management primary responsibility will include supporting Head of the PBO Strategic Partnering Team to establish and maintain positive working relationship with all RGC collaborative partners. Critical to this role will be to fully understand and manage the terms and conditions of each collaborative agreement, to assure our collaborators and the RGC are meeting their commitments as defined within the agreement. The Senior Manager will work in this capacity under the direction of the PBO Head of Strategic Partnering. Examples of typical tasks:
1. Management of Collaborative Govenance Committees
2. Monitoring of key contract deliverables
3. Problem solving with collaborators to assure immediate assessment and management of issues and concerns
4. Reporting on collaboration contract deliverables
Special Projects primary responsibility will include supporting the Executive Director of PBO and Head of Strategic Partnerships with projects and tasks that represent additive tasks and projects and/or "out of scope" projects to the core function of the PBO. These tasks might include, but not limited to:
1. Concept Due Diligence
2. Program and Project planning
3. Market Analysis
4. Stakeholder Outreach
5. Operational tasks
6. Strategic planning tasks
The Senior Manager will be a part of the management team for PBO and thus will be asked to participate in and help to support PBO strategic planning, goals development, performance monitoring and supporting the overall development of culture and teamwork within the PBO team. This person will also be asked to represent PBO to both Regeneron leadership as well as outside partners and collaborators and will be expected to serve as a representative voice for Regeneron, RGC and PBO.
BS in natural sciences, computer sciences or related fields or BA in management, economics or related fields. MA or equivalent work experience. Scientific/educational background (MS, MD or PhD) not required, but preferred.
5+ years of industry experience, preferably with pharmaceutical/biotech company or genome center; Collaboration management experience required; top-tier biopharma or healthcare industry project management experience preferred.
Experience in managing complex research collaborations, with emphasis on coordination of external research partnerships.
Skilled and experienced at the fundamentals of pharmaceutical/biotech project management - milestone driven project management, contracting support, budget management, project deliverables management, collaborator support, etc. This also includes experience leading or participating in due diligence teams and assessing new projects and programs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with significant attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and multitask in a complex, yet entrepreneurial environment.
Strategic thinker with understanding of the biopharmaceutical discovery and development process, genomics and the strategic issues facing the RGC. Sufficient knowledge of or desire to learn about all stages of RGC activities.
Demonstrates the ability to think creatively and independently, propose solutions proactively, and exhibit sound judgment.
The candidate must be highly organized, process driven, and self-motivated.
The role will require effective communication, leadership, and ability to work with cross-functional teams across research, clinical, finance, legal, and administrative functions as well as third party collaborators.
