Scientist - Computational Biologist in human genetics, pharmacogenetics and genomics

The Translational Systems Biology Group within the Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences (CBSS) department at Amgen Cambridge is committed to bringing safe and transformative medicines to patients. Our mission is to apply a variety of human-centric approaches including human genetics along with cell, molecular, computational and structural biology techniques to develop methodologies that can assess the safety of our drug targets or elucidate mechanisms leading to toxicity.

We are seeking a talented Scientist to join our Translational Systems Biology Group in Amgen Cambridge. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in human genetics, pharmacogenetics and functional genomics. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role using a variety of computational tools to investigate the safety of potential therapeutics or target interventions.

Key responsibilities
  • Drive in silico efforts focused on using human genetics and functional genomic datasets to elucidate the biology of targets we are pursuing in order to inform the safety profile of our drug targets
  • Perform large-scale analyses using multiple data types (e.g. pre-clinical data, drug side-effects, genetic variation, pharmacology) to support our predictive safety efforts
  • Lead the design, execution, and interpretation of genetic studies to investigate the influence of genetic variants on drug response
  • Define the overall strategy and goals for the application of human genetics/pharmacogenetics to drug safety assessment
  • Initiate, design and establish internal and external collaborations in the area of human genetics to inform target selection, safety assessment and de-risking
  • Mentor associates and postdoctoral fellows who lead genetic studies and projects, including wet lab molecular genetics experiments
  • Interface directly with bioinformaticians and computational biologists to develop experimental plans and interpret genetic association studies
  • Integrate other efforts within the group focused on human cell-based models and systems biology
  • Collaborate with researchers and clinicians within Amgen to interpret nonclinical and clinical data
  • Represent the Translational Systems Biology Group internally and externally through presentations, publications, networks, collaborations and conferences to promote the science of human genetics for safety assessment
