Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

As part of the Commercial Data Science team, this intern will collaborate with business partners, service owners and IS peers to develop predictive and prescriptive models and insights across the US Commercial Organization. This role will innovate and create significant business impact through the strategic use of advanced analytics techniques to help Amgen with its mission of getting patients the therapies they need.

The intern will be primarily responsible for:
  • Building high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models and proof of concepts using Python or R
  • Creating prototypes and demonstrations to better access and utilize data assets
    • Extracting and transforming data using Python or SQL
    • Conducting Exploratory Data Analysis
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders to develop use cases that are relevant to the business
  • Presenting analysis ideas, progress and results to business partners


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master's program for a Masters internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree Concentration in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Physics, Statistics, or Operations Research
  • Experience with databases including relational, NoSQL, and Graph
  • Programming experience with Python, R, or SAS and experience with ML libraries like scikit-learn, MLib, Keras, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc
  • Detail-oriented technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organization/planning skills and talent for managing many large and complex datasets
  • Ability to communicate analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Experience working with large datasets, experience working with distributed computing tools (Spark, Hive, etc.)
