  • Be prepared to work in a well-supported environment, with access to the cutting-edge tools, technologies and expertise
  • Learn different aspects of the drug development business, and how it applies to making novel anti-cancer drugs

The AbbVie Experiential Summer Intern Program is a paid, 12 week internship available in two sessions. Session 1 will start at the end of May (semester system) and session 2 will start in early June (quarter system). The program is focused on providing students with original pharmaceutical development projects, based on business need. You'll do meaningful work that has a real impact on our business and patients worldwide.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Portfolio Program Management is dedicated to objectively driving the development and commercialization of medicines in AbbVie's portfolio. We focus across the enterprise, driving cross-functional focus across research and development, commercial and operations. We are accountable for ensuring highly collaborative discussions, not only within our teams, but importantly between teams and governance. We drive strategic focus and transparent decision making in our teams whilst continually raising the bar on our planning and analytics capabilities.
In addition to the primary project, the intern will also gain exposure to the day-to-day activities that the ABR Portfolio Program Management and Finance teams conduct to the support AbbVie's early oncology pipeline.

Resource management is the efficient and effective deployment of an organization's resources when they are needed; the most important resource to any organization or project is people. AbbVie's early oncology pipeline is growing at an exceedingly fast rate. Understanding the staffing requirements to effectively support all the programs is critical to advancing life-changing therapies to the clinic and patients without delay.

The summer intern's primary objective will be to revamp AbbVie Redwood City's (ABR) resource planning capabilities. The intern will assess ABR's existing capabilities and develop a work plan to improve them. Tools, such as the ABR resource model, will be updated to enable scenario planning and FTE analysis for AbbVie's Oncology Early Development (OED) pipeline. The final product(s) will be used to determine business, timeline, and resource implications of asset team decisions, as well as assist resource managers in staffing decisions to support the growing OED pipeline. The intern will present a poster on the resource model and example outputs for select program/pipeline scenarios at the end of the summer.
