Position Overview

Leader who will establish the brand vision and long term global product commercial strategy for assigned Nektar oncology products.

This includes providing strategic commercial direction to clinical programs and executing on pre-commercialization efforts. Must be able to lead, collaborate and influence a multidisciplinary team working on Nektar products (including external collaborators) to ensure successful development, regulatory approval and commercial success for Nektar products. Key activities include developing target product profiles, viable commercial forecasts including (primary market research), building product positioning, advancing life-cycle management and developing both product and digital marketing plans. Required to understand the science behind assigned oncology products and the landscape to be able to strategize and execute pre-commercially. Must become the brand champion for assigned Nektar products and establish Nektar as a company bringing novel drugs to patients and caregivers. This job contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.
  • Develops corporate and/or organizational policies and authorizes their implementation. Provides direction to senior managers in various areas, groups, and/or operations. Consistently works with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business. Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for major functional areas. Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Influences policymaking.
  • Establish Brand Vision for assigned Nektar oncology products. Develop long term product strategy for assigned Nektar brands from development to commercialization and Life cycle management. Serves as the single point of commercial contact between clinical, CMC and commercial teams for identified Nektar products.
  • Provides commercial input into the development of proprietary products including activities such as product positioning, competitive analysis, product forecasting, pricing analysis, product labeling and pharmaco-economic evaluation that support Company's strategic objectives.
  • Develops digital marketing strategic plan and execute projects to accomplish Nektar's digital marketing strategy for assigned products in partnership with medical affairs, IR and IT.
  • Drives corporate marketing objectives by building awareness and comprehension of Nektar development stage products in our customer, employees, potential employees and investor minds.
  • Provides direction to senior managers in various areas, groups, and/or operations. Consistently works with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business. As part of multidisciplinary team assure successful product development, regulatory approval and achievement of commercial goals.
  • Contribute to and support research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to treat unmet medical needs.
  • Work with CMC to ensure adequate clinical and commercial supply and establish the best formulation, package size and dosage forms.
  • Work with regulatory to establish generic and brand name for each late stage Nektar product.
  • Work with IR to provide market information on our products to support the company strategy and tactics.
  • Work with Drug Development, Finance, CMC and other disciplines to develop and manage identified commercial budgets and timelines.
  • Provide updates to senior management on key milestones, timelines and brand objectives.
  • Collaborate with Clinical to establish long term (3 year) publication plan for all lead products. Collaborate with Clinical to establish and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders in all therapeutic areas of interest. Develop yearly key opinion leader plan detailing upcoming interactions.
  • Work with medical affairs to define and implement yearly congress activities, KOL events, and advisory boards for all Nektar products.
  • When appropriate, work with clinical, regulatory and CMC to establish Expanded Access Program and Named Patient Program.
  • Assists the company on executing pre-launch activity including rapid accrual of clinical trials.
  • Develops U.S. commercial launch plan and global market access strategy.
  • Establishes business cases for new clinical trials (where applicable).
  • Updates short and long range forecasts for identified Nektar products by geography. This also includes creating business cases and providing a stage-appropriate market estimate for each product and each newly proposed indication.
  • Develops a deep understanding of the competitive landscape (CI). Create quarterly CI update for key internal stakeholders.
  • May be responsible for providing regular performance feedback, development and coaching to direct reports.
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a scientific, business, marketing or related discipline is required. An advanced degree such as MD, Ph.D. or Pharm.D. is preferred. Equivalent experience may be accepted. A minimum of 14 years' experience in the pharmaceutical or related industries. A minimum of 12 years, marketing, strategic planning, or business development experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical technology industry is required. A minimum of 12 years previous management experience is preferred. Demonstrated commercial experience in the areas of Oncology is required. Launch experience is preferred. Must have demonstrated commercial and development experience. Must be able to demonstrate an ability to lead marketing and technical discussions internally and externally. Must be experienced with and capable of explaining scientific concepts. Must have demonstrated experience in exercising sound business judgment. Must be able to demonstrate an ability to pioneer new ideas and create new thinking. Excellent communication skills both oral and written are required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work across multiple functions, disciplines and people.
