Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Pre-Therapeutic Target Discovery in Tarrytown, NY. There are 2 openings for Summer 2019. Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
The student will participate in a project to investigate cytokines within tumor microenvironments. Our intern will be given the opportunity to learn how to culture tumor cell lines, to collect and prepare tumor samples, to run multiplex cytokine assays, and to analyze data using Prism software. Depending on how the project progresses, the opportunity may exist to learn some flow cytometry. The project will culminate in a short presentation given to the PTTD team at the end of the internship.

Position 2:
Our research group is working on obtaining a better understanding of the function of a type of endocrine cell, the enterochromaffin cell, that is located in the epithelial lining of the small intestine. Enterochromaffin cell dysfunction may play a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, and these cells are the most common source of tumors of the small intestine. To better understand how enterochromaffin cells function, we are looking at changes in the intestine when specific proteins are genetically deleted from enterochromaffin cells, and when specific receptors in the cell membrane of enterochromaffin cells are stimulated. These studies require that we understand the effects of these manipulations on individual cells. We would like the help of a summer intern to investigate how a specific receptor expressed in the cell membrane of enterochromaffin cells generates intracellular signals, using cells in culture. The skills employed in this position will be transfection of cells with plasmids that code for the receptor of interest, maintenance of cells in culture, and analysis of cell signaling assays.
