The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide electron microscopy, protein characterization, protein expression, optical microscopy and genetics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist I to join the Single Cell Analysis Facility (SCAF) of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at NCI. The SCAF provides support for state of the art single cell sequencing technologies including 10X Genomics Chromium, BD Genomics Rhapsody, rare cell isolation platforms, and other emerging single cell technologies to basic and translational cancer research.

A Scientist I will:
  • Work closely with other members of SCAF to process single cell genomics data and manage large datasets for multiple projects
  • Will be integrally involved in the evaluation and establishment of emerging single cell methods and analysis tools
  • Have a strong background in molecular and cell biology, and be motivated to expand their data analysis experience in the fast-moving field of single cell genomics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).
  • No Experience is required beyond the Doctorate degree
  • Strong communication skills - ability to explain both molecular biology and computational aspects of NextGen sequencing experiments
  • Ability to manage large genomic datasets for multiple projects
  • Experience running command line software
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong background in molecular biology, NextGen sequencing
  • Experience in single cell genomics
  • Bioinformatics and/or programming experience
  • Experience with data management and databases
  • Experience with automation using liquid handling robotics
